Recognized for her excellence in critical care, Dr. Mary Carolyn Vinson’s desire to create an exceptional patient experience is evident in everything she does, from her amiable approach to patient interactions to her passion for maintaining and improving the high quality of service TGMG is known for.
A member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, Women in Thoracic Surgery, and the Thoracic Surgery Residents Association, and board certified in general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery, Dr. Vinson’s areas of surgical expertise include treating:
• Lung cancer and lung nodules via robotic surgery
• Chest wall tumors
• Mediastinal tumors including thymoma
• Esophageal cancer, including hiatal hernia and achalasia, and performing GERD robotic surgery and antireflux surgery
• Thymic disorders, including myasthenia gravis
• Thoracic outlet syndrome
• Germ cell tumors
• Pancoast tumors
• Sarcoma

Dr. Vinson earned her undergraduate degree from Bluefield College in Bluefield, Virginia, her graduate degree from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, and her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg, Virginia.
After graduating, she completed her internship at NOVA Southeastern University in Largo, her general residency at West Virginia University, Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia, and her cardiothoracic surgery residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. She also completed a year-long advanced fellowship in Advanced Thoracic Oncology and Robotics at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa, Florida.
