Jennifer Lea Seminerio-Diehl MD

Dr. Jennifer Seminerio is the Director of Inflammatory Bowel Disease at USF Health. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN and fellowship in Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at UPMC in Pittsburgh, PA, where she also served as chief fellow. Her research career during fellowship focused on obesity in IBD as well as nutritional standards and drug monitoring. She continued this while at MUSC where she published on specific drugs and their impact on IBD. Since moving to Florida and starting at USF, the focus has been on establishing a research division with a presence both in industry sponsored studies as well as original investigator-initiated trials and publications. Now with the IBD database multiple projects are being undertaken with the help of current fellows. Most recently she was promoted to Associate Fellowship Program Director with a special interest in building research amongst the fellows. She was also named Director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Division and has led the build of the upcoming IBD Center, currently in construction at USF Health and set to officially open January 2023. As the director she has sought to create an all-encompassing IBD environment and jointly wrote a grant awarded to USF to hire a social worker dedicated to the mental health needs of patients. Dr. Seminerio’s professional experience includes membership in the Crohns and Colitis Foundation where she serves on multiple national committees including Chair of the Junior Investigator Task Force, committee member of REACH and committee member of the Women in IBD Task Force. She is a current mentor for Scrubs and Heels and has served on the DDW plenary committee for ASGE for the past 3 years. Regionally she chairs the Patient Education Committee for the Southwest. In Florida she is the chair of the FL Healthcare Professional Engagement Council (formerly known as CMAC) and leads the IBD committee within Florida Gastro Society. She runs the Florida IBD live monthly conference which is sponsored through her educational grant and provides CME credits to participants monthly. Within USF she also serves on the ACGME Research Council, the Nutrition Scholarly Group, and the Women’s Focus Group. Her ongoing passion and drive within inflammatory bowel disease will persist as she continues to grow and flourish in her career.
