Dr. Ashley Mooney grew up in South Georgia. She attended medical school at Mercer University and was inducted into the AOA honor society. Dr Mooney completed her residency in General Surgery at Wake Forest Medical Center and fellowship training in MIS/Bariatric Surgery at USF. She joined the Department of Surgery and the TGH+USF Bariatric Center as Assistant Professor upon completion of fellowship in 2017. She served as Medical Director of the TGH+USF Bariatric Program, 2019-2020.
Dr. Mooney has a special interest in adolescent bariatric surgery, and she is an author of multiple publications including Bariatric Surgery: The Future of Obesity Management in Adolescents. She focuses her clinical practice in robotic surgery in highly complex patient populations, pre-transplant, revisional, and adolescent weight loss surgery. Dr. Mooney and the bariatric group are the busiest robotic surgeons at Tampa General Hospital. Additionally, she holds a particular interest in healthcare efficiency, cost savings, and quality. She is the Director of Surgical Quality and works with USF, TGH and CQO in a fully immersive collaboration to identify and target key projects of change within the institution..
Lastly, and most importantly, she is an avid SEC college football fan. Go Dawgs!
